Bookmarks for October 26th through October 29th

These are my links for October 26th through October 29th:

  • Yahoo! Application Platform - The web is open. And now Yahoo!'s pages are opening up, too. Get in front of the largest daily audience on the web. Over 330 million unique visitors worldwide visit the Yahoo! homepage (www.yahoo.com) each month. Now, developers like you have an opportunity to see your own applications on the world's most popular homepage
  • Amazon Relational Database Service - Amazon RDS gives you access to the full capabilities of a familiar MySQL database. This means the code, applications, and tools you already use today with your existing MySQL databases work seamlessly with Amazon RDS.
  • MySQL or Memcached or Tokyo Tyrant? And the winner is… - An interesting comparison between MySQL, Memcached and Tokyo Tyrant. It does however miss an important point, MySQL does not scale linearly under load, Memcached does.
  • Play framework - A Java framework that brings the simple style of Rails / Django to Java developers. Certainly looks interesting
  • German Wikibook - I'm learning German, and this wikibook appears to be an excellent helper along the way.
  • Sid Meier’s Civilization Network - Civilisation on Facebook? But I just managed to ween myself off of FarmVille and give up facebook checking for a while again. Oh dear, I see the end of my side projects for a while!
  • Y Combinator: Startup Library - Articles on everything you might need if you are thinking of starting up a business in the tech industry
  • BrowserPlus - BrowserPlus is a technology for web browsers that allows developers to create rich web applications with desktop capabilities. Although Yahoo! has had a rough time recently, this does look very interesting. I'm still waiting on linux support however.
  • Modern CSS Layouts: The Essential Characteristics Smashing Magazine - Smashing magazine again produce a useful and well written tutorial to help you learn the five essential characteristics of successful modern CSS websites.
